Hong Kong – 8 March 2022: The 18th Annual CITIC CLSA ASEAN Forum opens today, featuring trusted views from an impressive lineup of expert speakers, corporate executives and CLSA analysts, plus in-depth insights on the most important trends driving investment decisions and potential returns in ASEAN. The Forum brings together over 500 institutional investors and more than 150 leading ASEAN corporates in an entirely virtual format to examine ASEAN’s competitive positioning over three action-packed days.

Beginning with Investing in ASEAN Day, we explore the region’s close links and synergies through key policies and private initiatives to restart, build, fund and grow economies. We will dissect the macroeconomic dynamics, including related trade pacts and government directives that will underwrite lower deglobalisation risks. Alex Redman, Chief Equity Strategist at CLSA, opens the Forum with a keynote speech on reckoning and recalibrating ASEAN in 2022.

Edward Park, CEO of Institutional Equities at CLSA, said: “ASEAN benefits from young populations and diverging global markets, offering investors opportunities to tap into the rapid growth of emerging markets and increase portfolio returns via differentiated investment strategies. Our Forum is well-placed to identify the key opportunities and challenges in today’s ASEAN, assessing exciting growth prospects and investment outlook around the region.”

On Day Two’s Digital Coming of Age, the Forum dives into ASEAN’s digital boom that has leapfrogged old-economy sectors, discovering how a list of new-economy companies are leveraging local government support and emerging tech opportunities to develop and innovate. Expert speakers include Deborah Elms, Executive Director at Asian Trade Centre, who shares her insights on digital policies and regulating a digital economy. Our Private Equity/Venture Capital panel discusses ASEAN’s prospects as an attractive investment destination.

While new-economy companies in ASEAN look to jumpstart their development, the region’s old economy forces remain robust, underpinned by recovering commodity prices, infrastructure projects coming back online and increased foreign direct investment. Closing the Forum with our Old Economy Fights Back Day, we will explore how old economy sectors are diversifying, taking advantage of the EV supply chain, fintech initiatives and growing demand. Four panels focusing on energy, conglomerates, property and banks discuss how old economy companies adapt – through reinvention, restructuring or investing in new businesses – to better handle growing competition and rising opportunities.

Kai Kaufmann, Head of Corporate Access and Client Strategy at CLSA, said: “We are delighted to host the 18th Annual CITIC CLSA ASEAN Forum to connect leading listed and private corporates from across the region with institutional investors from around the world. Our Forum features 15 highly differentiated webinars as well as unrivalled corporate access through hundreds of virtual one-on-one and group meetings with ASEAN’s top executives. As one of ASEAN’s main investor events, our Forum offers differentiated and non-consensus investment insights over three illuminating days.”
