CLSA receives 135 No.1 market and sector rankings in 29th Asiamoney Brokers Poll

Hong Kong – Monday, 07 January 2019: CLSA Limited (CLSA), Asia’s leading capital markets and investment group, has reaffirmed its dominant position in Asian equity research and sales, ranking No.1 Overall for Combined Research and Sales in the three surveyed markets: Asia (ex-Australia, China A&B, Japan), Australia and Japan, for the second consecutive year.

In addition, CLSA ranked No.1 in more than 130 categories across all markets and sectors, a testament to the depth and breadth of CLSA’s research, high quality sales services and market leading trading and execution capabilities. The 29th Asiamoney Brokers Poll surveyed more than 6,500 investors from 3,100 financial institutions across the globe.

Research: CLSA surpasses previous wins

CLSA remains the go-to broker for Asian equity research, securing the No.1 position for Overall Regional Research in Asia (ex-Australia and Japan).  The firm ranked No.1 in 13 out of 21 regional research sectors including Best Strategist, Christopher Wood; Best Economist, Eric Fishwick; and Best Quantitative/Technical Analyst, Laurence Balanco. CLSA’s Patricia Cheng scored a trifecta, ranking No.1 in all three sectors under her coverage; Banks, Diversified Financials and Insurance, the only analyst in Asia to achieve this.

CLSA was voted No.1, No.2 or No.3 for Best Regional Research Team in Asia (ex-Japan) in 26 different categories/sectors. CLSA ranked No.1 for Best Overall Country Research in Australia, Japan, The Philippines and Thailand, and was voted in the top three for Best Overall Country Research in all 12 markets in which CLSA operates.

Global institutional investors continued to vote for CLSA research in spite of MiFID II regulations. Global Head of Research, Edmund Bradley, commented: “MiFID II has surprised us on the upside. The consolidation of research providers brought about by the new regulations has benefited specialists such as CLSA. Our expertise in Asia provides a point of differentiation backed by unique products and award-winning analysts.” This is reflected in the 2018 Asiamoney Brokers Poll where CLSA has risen to No.1 Overall Regional Research in Asia (ex-Australia and Japan) from second place in 2017-2014.

Sales & Trading: CLSA remains top of the league

CLSA’s client-centric model and market-leading trading and execution capabilities saw the firm voted No.1 Overall Regional Sales in Asia (ex-Australia and Japan) for the third consecutive year by both investors and traders separately.  Global fund managers ranked 21 CLSA Sales and 17 CLSA Sales Traders in the top three across Asia overall and within individual markets.

Ten years after opening in Australia, CLSA confirms its lead among international and local research houses with the second consecutive award for Best Overall Combined Research and Sales in Australia. CLSA’s Australia analysts were voted No.1 in 18 of the 19 sectors surveyed while the CLSA Australia equities sales team and sales trading team scooped the top three positions in their respective categories.

CLSA Japan took the top spot for Best Overall Combined Research and Sales in Japan for the second year in a row and was voted No.1 Best for Overall Country Research, No.1 Best Overall Sales Services and No.1 Best Country Sales Trader.
