CLSA Australia expands corporate finance and capital markets platform

Sydney – Monday, 20th March 2017 – CLSA Australia is pleased to announce the continued expansion of its Australia and New Zealand corporate finance and capital markets business with the appointment of its first Head of Equity Capital Markets for Australia and New Zealand, Michael Vercoe.

In May 2015, CLSA expanded its Australia platform to include investment banking services through CITIC CLSA Securities.  Led by Mark Dorney, Head of Corporate Finance and Capital Markets for Australia and New Zealand, the team has established a strong foothold in Australia, leveraging its China connections through parent company CITIC Securities.

Dorney comments: “In two short years we have built a solid track record in the Australia market. The support we have received from clients for our M&A work now allows us to include a dedicated ECM offering. In Michael Vercoe we gain an experienced banker who has engaged in several landmark transactions across the private and public sector including Royal Dutch Shell’s $3.2bn block trade in Woodside, ~$3bn of selldowns in Aurizon for the Queensland Government and Fonterra’s innovative listing of the Fonterra Shareholders’ Fund.

CLSA Australia Country Head, Andrew Norman said: “Backed by 30 years of CLSA’s Asia expertise, CLSA Australia is focused on providing the highest quality research, sales and execution services to Aussie corporate and institutional investors.  Our differentiated approach is gaining traction in the market and the expansion of our platform to include ECM will only further strengthen this position.”

Michael Vercoe joins CITIC CLSA Securities on Monday, 20th March 2017. His hire follows the recent appointment by CLSA Australia of highly regarded analyst Richard Johnson to cover chemicals, paper and packaging.
