Nesting with the snake

A perceptive observer once pointed out that the product of 0 multiplied by 0 equals 0, and 1 multiplied by 1 equals 1, suggesting that certain numbers are equal to their own squares. An equally adroit reader will note that the latter part of that sentence proves the existence of numbers, a concept well understood in the Feng Shui world. Every year, numbers play a significant role in influencing the design and fate of your business, or even your house, particularly through their impact on cosmic and earthly directions. We offer insights into which numbers may favour investments in specific areas and how to mitigate the disruptive effects of unfavourable numbers in other areas. This year, magic square enthusiasts will notice a pattern where the numbers in the east-west (horizontal) and north-south (vertical) quadrants all add up to fifteen. One diagonal follows this pattern, while the other does not. If you are looking for a shiver up your spine with spooky numbers then note that in all years, our numbers in these 3x3 grids add up to a certain sum, and if not that middle sum then to either 9 more or 9 less.

It’s time to begin considering one prominent consequence of the ninth 20 year period as it gains strength. The prevailing direction is the south, ruled by the fire trigram, li ☲. Whether you have a mansion on a hill or a small abode, having an opening in the south allows good fortune to flow in.

Each year, the nine flying stars move to a different position in the 3x3 grid, onto which are placed the directions. Each star has its own characteristics, and has a tendency to work in your favour or not. Sometimes that tendency is just built into the star’s disposition, sometimes your behaviour can modulate it, and usually every 20 years, when a new background pattern is set, a star can change from beneficial to damaging or vice-versa. On this page, we present their manifestation on the map of Hong Kong, but these prognostications apply across all geometric spaces.
