On 24 February 2024, CITIC CLSA Trust, in collaboration with Po Leung Kuk (PLK), held the kick-off ceremony for the Youth Mental Health Programme at PLK Tong Nai Kan Junior Secondary College. The programme is designed to raise awareness on mental health among young people in Hong Kong and equip them with the necessary tools to cope with mental health challenges. Funded by the Trust’s HKD 737,000 donation last year, the programme spans from February 2024 to March 2025, and is expected to benefit more than 101,000 people.
In their opening remarks, Winnie W L Chan, Chairman of PLK, and Ms. Jodi Wang, Co-COO, Head of Executive Office and Human Resources of CITIC CLSA, both expressed the critical importance of providing systemic support for the mental well-being of young people and the hopes of future collaborations of the two organizations to continue serving local communities.
An interesting souvenir – the Mindful Companionship Card (“心灵同行卡”) was distributed to all participating students. It folds into a heart shape and contains valuable information on mental health, tips on seeking help and active listening methods, etc.
The ceremony also featured four workshops focused on expressive arts and emerging sports, designed to teach the students how to foster companionship and support each other when navigating mental health challenges. Community Outreach volunteers joined forces in these workshops to guide the students through the activities.
Workshops were divided into two groups: dynamic and static. The Finnish wooden chess and Frisbee emphasize the ability of unity and cooperation among students, encouraging participants to actively communicate, formulate strategies, and achieve common goals in the game. The fluid bear coloring and leather cardholder making workshops stimulated their innovative capabilities and boost self-esteem, allowing students to face challenges together while retaining their individual uniqueness.
In the coming months, the programme will offer more on-campus activities, including incubation schemes, experiential workshops and multimedia promotional campaigns. Stay tuned for more updates.
