A group of dedicated CITIC CLSA volunteers recently gathered for a fun-filled STEAM workshop at the Chinese YMCA Chai Wan Centre. The workshop aimed to introduce children to the interdisciplinary field of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) through hands-on activities and games.
During the workshop, the children learned how to build toys using simple tools and recycled materials. Our volunteers acted as facilitators, guiding the children through the process and encouraging them to unleash their creativity and experiment with different materials. By the end of the session, the children had created different projects, from a cardboard decoding device to a three-dimensional toothpick tower.
The children were enthusiastic about the activities and embraced the challenges. The volunteers also had a great time, enjoying the opportunity to give back to the community and share their passion for STEAM with the next generation. The workshop was a wonderful example of how hands-on learning can spark curiosity in young minds. We look forward to offering similar workshops in future and inspire more children to explore the world of knowledge.
