As we celebrate Earth Day on April 22, CLSA is joining the global movement calling for immediate action to curb greenhouse gas emissions and fight climate change. The theme for Earth Day 2022 is “Invest in Our Planet” with the goal of reaching net-zero greenhouse gas emissions and keeping the rise in global temperature to below 1.5°C by 2030 as per the Paris Agreement.
CLSA has an ongoing commitment to support the UN Sustainable Development Goals and create a more sustainable future for our planet. We are pleased to announce that, in partnership with the technology platform, EcoMatcher, over 2,000 trees have been planted as part of our sustainability commitment to actively protect and help improve local ecosystems. As of today, over 4,400 trees have been planted in the CLSA Global Forest. We have set roots in countries like Ecuador, Indonesia, Kenya, Malaysia, Peru, the Philippines, Thailand and Uganda to rejuvenate environments and reforest the planet by working with its local communities. Our efforts have contributed to three of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG):
- SDG 10 – Reduced Inequalities (880 families helped)
- SDG 13 – Climate Action (1,100,000 kgCO2 sequestered)
- SDG 15 – Life on Land (4400 trees adopted)
In future CLSA will endeavour to plant and grow even more trees. Together we will help protect our planet for future generations and improve the lives and livelihoods of the communities where we plant trees.
A key part of CLSA’s culture is to empower employees to give back to and be active in programs that benefit our global and local communities.
