Sad to say, it is one of those years where you are minding your own business, happily grazing away on sweet pastures, but an unceasing annoyance of flies just will not stop landing on you. You will spend the year whipping your tail around and twitching your flanks just to get some respite. A little adrift and befuddled this year, take care not to become the steer-less cow. Can you milk your way through? We would not dairy say.

  Health

There are prospects for good health this year. While there is no silver bullet, no doubt having a four-part stomach enables you to segregate different sources of sustenance into harmless and compartmentalised sections: calf-inated coffee in one and teri-yak-i in another. Advice from the cosmos is quite sensible this year: if it is Friesian, then get yourself a scarf.

  Wealth

Is the world divided between winners and losers? Those with stable employment are likely to see an increase in duties and should milk it for all it is worth. Be careful with the milk jug or you will end up with a pocketful of useless pottery shards. As with the ox, you might consider that when it comes to buying livestock, you have got the inside running. You will need to check the supply of feed sources and fresh water before you do.

  Love

Those bellows coming at you from over the horizon sound like an invitation to get cud-dly in a haystack. Before you befriend those unseen solicitations, take some time to get down to the more serious yakking. It wouldn’t hurt to have a proxy on hand to smooth the way. Keep in mind that ‘the cow jumped over the moon’ is a child’s story.

  Career

The tugs of war we feel within ourselves can sometimes be driven by great unseen influences. This year, the Purple Fern Star is dropping by and your mental faculties should be particularly acute and you could find yourself absorbing esoteric knowledge over breakfast. However, the Violent Failure Star is also accompanying you, which may turn you into a bulldozer, clearing your own steer-ageway through your profession, like a heifer bumping the lighter ones out of the way. Two masks, one choice.

Guiding hexagram from the Yi-Jing (Book of Changes)

Judgement:
Progress. The powerful prince is honoured with horses in large numbers. In a single day, he is granted audience three times.
Image:
The sun rises over the earth: the image of Progress. Thus, the superior man brightens his bright virtue.
The Forest of Changes:
In the Five Classics and Six Relations, one sees the way of benevolence. Heavy frost in the first month of summer, yet one suffers no censure.
Verdict:
Is it better to make mistakes when you are young, before the obligations of life double down on the penalties? If so, can we apply this understanding to the course of a year; dig a hole for yourself early on and then spend the rest of the year digging yourself out of it? It is certainly possible; that is a better course, and we look forward to hearing from you about this in 12 months’ time.
