On 9 July CLSA took part in the Habitat for Humanity, Hong Kong Project School Works programme. Our volunteers joined students from a local school in Tin Shui Wai to paint colourful murals within the campus that brighten the school and create a better learning environment for the students.

Habitat for Humanity Hong Kong began in 1976 as a grassroots effort driven by the vision that everyone needs a decent place to live. Subsequently the charitable organisation has provided support for millions of families globally, providing strength, stability and self-reliance through shelter. One of their most engaging community programmes is Project School Works, which aims to create a welcoming school environment for underprivileged students through art.

Over time Habitat for Humanity has found that art has the power to create a positive impact on local communities. Guided by an illustrator from the school, volunteers from CLSA rolled up their sleeves and painted a series of colourful murals featuring a vibrant tropical jungle with exotic trees and flowers. The volunteers then applied a polycyclic layer to protect the outdoor murals from damage. The creative expression added more colour to the school environment and enhanced students’ understanding of ecology, biodiversity and their habitat.

CLSA is passionate about giving back to the community and improving the quality of life for young people. We’d like to thank our volunteers for their commitment to making a positive impact on the community through their motivation and creativity.
