19th CLSA Investors’ Forum opens to over 1500 institutional investors and C-suites. Boxing great Mike Tyson headlines over 40 keynote & specialist speakers
10 September 2012
Hong Kong - Monday, 10 September 2012 - CLSA Asia-Pacific Markets (‘CLSA’), Asia’s leading and longest-running independent brokerage and investment group, opens the 19th CLSA Investors’ Forum in Hong Kong today. The largest event of its kind in Asia, CLSA will this year host some 1500 institutional investors from 33 countries and 550 senior executives from more than 200 listed Asian, Australian and American companies.
CLSA Chairman and CEO, Jonathan Slone, opened the forum noting that once again the Forum was convening as interest in markets continues to wane.
“Nearly five years after the global financial crisis began we still have no real resolution to many of the core issues facing global financial markets,” he said. “Ongoing crisis and the threat of unexpected consequences has become the new norm, and nothing on the horizon suggested that this will change anytime soon.”
The good news in Asia is that companies continue to perform well despite challenging fundamentals. Those with strong balance sheets and nimble management remain well positioned – and in particular we are seeing a lot of enthusiasm from Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines.
Former boxing heavy-weight champion, businessman and actor, Mike Tyson, headlines more than 40 keynote and specialist speakers scheduled to present at the CLSA Investors’ Forum, including vocal Eurosceptic and MEP, Nigel Farage, Secretary-General, UN Conference on Trade and Development, Supachai Panitchpakdi, Harvard Professor, Dr Meghan O'Sullivan, proponent and lecturer of Big History, David Christian, author and founder of Acumen Fund, Jacqueline Novogratz, Bad Science columnist, Ben Goldacre, Former Senior Vice Chairman of Citigroup, William Rhodes, photographer Rick Smolan, and strategist and media commentator David Roche, will join Tyson in Hong Kong.
This year CLSA has the good fortune to welcome a new shareholder, CITIC Securities, following its purchase of a 19.9% stake. With their support we will continue to bring key Chinese decision makers and commentators to our clients and this year we are pleased to have Madame Wu Xiaoling, Vice Chairwoman of the Financial and Economic Affairs Committee of the NPC, Former Deputy Governor of the PBoC speak as well as Lawrence Lau, Chairman of CIC International.
Together with presentations from 110 corporations and 40 CLSA analysts, including Asia’s No.1 equity strategist Christopher Wood and leading regional economist Eric Fishwick, the CLSA Investors’ Forum provides perspectives on economics, finance, education, entrepreneurism, science, health, the environment and technology. They will share their stories, professional and personal in CLSA’s inimitable ‘tell it as it is, warts and all’ style.
CLSA clients will also be treated to nightly social events around Hong Kong culminating in the renowned CLSA gala party featuring award-winning female vocalist Katy Perry for a night of ‘sweet temptation’ on Thursday, 13 September.
